Fancy Feet

Last night before bath time Grace showed off some fancy footwork for Mommy. I immediately called Jonathan in to watch and he then immediately got the video camera. We both almost died laughing. Hope the little ham makes you smile too! Right now she is rolling around on the floor "singing" and laughing and waving her feet (yes, feet) in the air. I think its time for bed.

I always thought ballet would be her main focus. Perhaps I have a tap dancer on my hands though. Don't worry, mom, she will still start out in ballet... because you know it is the foundation of all other western dance forms... and how can she be a good tapper without the proper foundation. Maybe she will decide on ballet though. I mean what little girl is not lured in by playing in her mom's and nana's old point shoes :)

Memory Lane - Wedding Style

Since it seems like everybody is showing us their wedding dresses this week I just had to take a little trip down memory lane myself. I thought I would invite you too! Mom and I were talking last night about how we can't believe I have been married for over 4 years. Ahh... It seems like only yesterday.

Anyway, I was a bride that truly enjoyed planning my wedding. Mom and I had a great time figuring out what we wanted to do and then figuring out how we would get it done. I even had a scrapbook full of ideas! I know, it was a little obsessive, but it was actually nice to get my mind off of school and think about my big day! Of course one of the most important parts of a wedding is the dress! And if you know me then it will come as no shock to you that it took me forever to find one that was just perfect. I wanted to wear my mom's dress, but there was no way I was going to fit into that tiny thing! It actually all ended up working out great. Mom, MA and I took a girls weekend to Little Rock and we found the dress in Brinkley at Lowes. It really was the kind of thing where when I put the dress on I knew immediately that it was the one for me! And I will always remember the girls weekend when we found it!

The wedding party.
We had a morning wedding, so I didn't want things to be too formal. We ordered the bridesmaids off-white cashmere tops from a catalog, and mom made the skirts from a pretty olive green dupioni silk that we found. She also make Megan's (the flower girl) dress to match. My mom is so talented. The guys wore dark grey pinstripes. We decided to keep it simple with the flowers too. The bridesmaids had bouquets of daisies and there were daisy wreaths on the front doors to the church, on either side of the baptistery, and on the end of the pews all the way down the center aisle. I had a bouquet of white orchids. I didn't realize this until after all the plans had been made, but my colors and flowers were the same as my mom had at her wedding. I really like that this ended up happening.

Here we are right after the ceremony! I can't believe how tan I was. Yomi, Stephanie and I had been working (along with all of the other architecture seniors) like crazy women to finish our senior project... we built a 3,000 sf bunk house for the Methodist Children's home OWL Center in the middle of the woods north of Ruston. We slept very well every night.

Also one of my favorite parts of the day... leaving the church! Not cause I wanted to leave, but because it was so much fun to run through all the confetti! I found biodegradable confetti online. It looked just like rice, but all you had to do was spray it with a water hose and it would disintegrate. We filled green toile sachets with the fun stuff.

I don't have any of my professional photos on this computer, but this is one of my favorites anyway! You can't really see my dress in any of the pics on this computer so I will try to describe it as best I can. It was a very simple heavy dupioni silk with a bateau neckline and narrow straps. In the back it was a deep "V" with covered buttons to the drop waist. There was also a narrow band of geometric beading around the waist. It had an A-line skirt and a short train. My veil was plain and was elbow length. I wore my mother's pearls. I can't imagine loving any dress more than this one.

The happy couple. Didn't I marry a handsome guy?!?!

The other thing that I had a hard time deciding on was my china... But once again, I just love what I ended up getting... Waterford Crosshaven Platinum. It always makes me smile to look in the china cabinet and see it there. I don't know why. I just really like it.

And for the everyday dishes I chose a classic Denby in the Reflex blue pattern. We always had dishes with a cobalt blue floral pattern when I was growing up, and I could not imagine myself eating off of any other color plate. I think that is funny.

I hope you have enjoyed this trip down memory lane! I had a good time myself!
All you married bloggers out there... let us see your wedding dress!

Fun and Games

Here is a video of Grace's favorite game. It's called "I'm Gonna Get You!" and she LOVES it. I must say, I am a pretty big fan of this game also.

Hammer Time

We finally started hanging pictures around here. After watching me hammer all over the house, Grace decided that she wanted to give it a try also. I think she had a lot of fun!

Bath Time

It's no secret that Grace loves bath time...I mean what kid doesn't? Recently she has figured out what the word "bath" means. We will ask her if she is ready for bath time and she gets so excited, waddles as quick as she can to the bathroom and starts to throw her toys into the tub and say "bath" in her own sweet little way. Here is a video from last night. You can also see how well she is walking... and what kinds of adventures we have been having since our little one has become so mobile.

Lesson learned... keep the lid down.

Milledgeville Living

Well folks, I am posting from our new home in Milledgeville, Georgia!!!! It has been a whirl wind couple of weeks, but I think things are going to start settling down soon. We totally could not have pulled off this move if it had not been for our families. My mom flew to Louisville and stayed for a few days to watch the baby while I packed, and then Jonathan's parents and brother came and helped us load everything. Then they caravaned all the way to GA and helped unload everything. My dad and sister met us here and helped get things set up after Jon's family left. I have the kitchen , living room, bathroom and Grace's room almost all the way unpacked, and tomorrow I am going to tackle our bedroom and the dining room... then hang pictures and decorate. Whew! I'll post some pictures once everything is more orderly.

We haven't just been unpacking though. We have spent a lot of time exploring our quaint little town. Did you know that Milledgeville was once the state capitol of Georgia? We live right across the street from the Georgia College and State University campus in the "historical district." And when I say historical I men historical. We are talking beautiful tree lined streets full of antebellum homes. Most were built in the 1800's and early 1900's. We live on the same street as the old governor's mansion! And not far past the mansion (near the First Baptist Church) is a neat cemetery where Milledgeville native Flannery O'Connor is buried. Downtown is sandwiched in between GC&SU and Georgia Military College. I have been really impressed by how many restaurants and businesses there are in the old downtown area. When both of our families were here we were able to just walk downtown and eat dinner and not have to take 3 or 4 cars full of people across town. This morning we walked through campus to downtown (where we made a stop at the local bakery for a donut and cookie) and then explored the GMC campus. Jonathan says that they have a really good football team, and tickets are only $7. The stadium was built before WWII, and it looks exactly the same as it did when it was first constructed! I think we will be attending a few games... especially since GC&SU does not have a football team. Then we walked home through an old antebellum neighborhood. This afternoon we went downtown again to the weekly farmers market. But there are new parts to the town also. We went to the Chili's across from the new super Wal-Mart for the Old Timer's Tuesday special (burger, fries and a coke for 5.99) tonight for dinner.

Well, I will post soon with pictures of our new home, town and of course Grace.... who by the way is WALKING LIKE A PRO ALL OVER CREATION!!!! I am burning a lot of calories here lately. I actually don't think I ever sit down all day... until she goes to bed, and then I call it quits on the unpacking and Jonathan and I have been enjoying getting reacquainted with our good old cable friends TLC and The Food Network. How about that Cake Boss?!?!
