You Can Call Him...

JACK

We are not 100% sure on the full name, but we will call our little boy Jack... Jack Nida. Now you can too : )

PS. I really like the way it looks. I can't wait to write it on something official... in my architecture handwriting. I also can't wait to see him write it... in awkward kindergarten lettering.

I think having a little boy is going to be absolutely wonderful.

Dream House

After searching for a couple of days for the perfect dollhouse for Grace... I am pretty sure any products from here would do sufficiently.

This is my personal favorite... The Stockholm.

You can view the prices and purchase here...
the only place in the US that I have found it for sale so far.

*****

What else does this wonderful sister company offer?
A whole line of Pippi toys.

Why why why do Americans have such a hard time producing stylish toys for children?

First comes love, then comes...

...Marriage!

My good good friend from college, Yomi, got married last weekend. She was in my wedding, and so it was very sad that I could not at least go to her wedding... but it was in Nigeria! Good thing she took lots of pictures for us all to see! She and Stephanie (my other good La Tech architecture girl friend) got to come for a weekend about a month ago so that was fun. Anyway, I just LOVED looking through all the pictures of Yomi's beautiful weddings and thought I should share them! She had a traditional ceremony and a "white wedding" ceremony. In a way I wish that we had this much color and activity at our weddings in the US.

It was all just beautiful! Congratulations Yomi!!!!

Doggie and Grace Play Farms

Do you remember your favorite toy or stuffed animal from childhood? I had a Care Bare dollhouse and a little people farm that I distinctly remember playing with for hours and hours. Grace plays with every single toy that she has, but two of her favorites are her "doggie" and her "farms". This morning they all played together. I can't believe how big she is and how she plays by herself now. She talks to her toys and role-plays with them. She loves to line up her farm animals a little people "single file!" and "teach them songs". She will get right down in their faces and sing her little heart out... ABC's is a particular favorite lately along with the Itzy Bitzy Spider and Wheels on the Bus. Once they are done with their lessons she will try to fit all 9 or 10 of them on the bus that was made for only 5 or so. Seeing her grow up is exciting and sad all at the same time. She is definitely NOT a baby anymore. Only a couple of more weeks till she is the big number two! Good thing we have another little baby coming!

Birmingham Weekend

Last weekend we went on a spur of the moment trip to Birmingham! Aunt Mary Allison was there playing basketball and we decided we just couldn't wait til June (Grace's birthday) to see the Milfords. So we hopped in the car, got a room at the Embassy Suites, all bunked in together and had a fabulous time hanging out. Grace LOVED watching MA play basketball, Jonathan and I went on a date, I bought a couple of outfits for the baby, Grace enjoyed riding the glass elevator and "checking on the fish" in the lobby, and we went to the zoo!!! Here are a few pictures...

Grace was so excited to see the chickens and roosters, but when the rooster cock-a-doodle-dooed right there in front of her this is what happened...

She was not so thrilled.

We went into a butterfly garden and saw the cocoons and butterflies.

There was a barn with all the farm animals in it. I think it's kind of humorous that farm animals are now part of a zoo exhibit.

Grace got to ride the tractor! She was totally pumped about this.

Waiting to get on the carousel (again) with Nana.

I tried to get a good picture of her and Nana on the carousel, but every single time they came around that darn zebra was in the way! Sorry Nana : )

Grace's main goal of the day was to ride on the choo-choo train. She talked pretty much non stop about this the entire time we were at the zoo until she got on the train. The she was overwhelmed and sat in Paw Paws lap the entire time with this expression on her face. She never said a word. Once we got off, she started talking about it again. "I rode on that toot toot train!"

Fun times were had by all :-)

IT'S A...

BOY!!!

Everything is looking good with our little boy! Yes, that's right, it's a BOY this time around! Jonathan's mom joked that the last name Nida is going to be just as common as the last name Smith here in a few years! Does this make me more of an official Nida woman now that I will contribute to the legacy :-) Good thing all those boy cousins will be providing lots of hand-me-downs! Good thing Grace's room is already painted Green! Good thing I have lots of mothers of boys to get advice from! I have to be honest. I am a girl from a family of girls. I don't understand sports very well, and I have no idea what I will do with a boy! I said all along I thought it was going to be a boy, but I have to be honest that I was still in shock when we saw the oh so evident evidence right in front of us on the screen. What a blessing!

What's Up?

Oh my. I feel like we have almost made it. We have a couple more busy days and then... gasp... nothing. I had no idea spring semester would be this hard. Maybe it's cause I'm pregnant. Maybe it's cause my child is almost 2. Maybe it's cause my husband works way more than 40 hours a week while getting a masters degree. Maybe it's cause we are so far away from family during all of this. Anyway, we are plum-tuckered-out here at the Nida house. We are tired, but it is a good tired. We enjoy the work we are doing, and I think we are doing a good job. However, it is going to be SO very nice to have some good old fashioned laying around the house next week. Honestly, I have no idea what to post about. So let's see... I will just post some pictures and tell you whats been happening around here.

Grace saw her first wheelchair basketball today! We went to Warm Springs, GA today to see Mary Allison play for the US team. We had a great time despite the lost to Germany by 5 in the championship game. Grace sat in my lap for the entire game. She was totally mesmerized by what was going on. By the end she was clapping and cheering "USA" and "Defense". After the game we talked to her about what she had seen. It is always funny to hear what she takes and remembers from new situations.

Here is something along the lines of how the conversation went...

me: What did you think of the basketball game?
g: Loud... a little loud.

me: what did you see?
g: MA. basketball. wheelchairs. they fall down.... they get back up.

me: that's right! what else happened? did they have basketballs?
g: throw them... (waving her hands in the air) in the air... in the air.

Other memorable events from the day... We walked around the pond with MA and saw geese and their goslings. Jonathan and Grace "honked" at them and it was absolutely hilarious. Grace discovered automatic sliding doors. She thought they were pretty awesome. She also ate every single bite of her quesadilla at dinner. This child absolutely loves a quesadilla.

The above picture is a prefect representation of my child. I told her that we were going to go to the store on this particular morning. Five minutes later she came to me looking like this and declared "I'm ready to go, Mommy!"

When we first moved here Grace's Sunday School teacher described her as "precocious". I can not think of a better description. She is definitely giving me a run for my money here lately. I think it may have something to do with our always consistent routine being more inconsistent lately, and I think it also must have something to do with the fact that she is less than a month away from the big number 2. Anyway, I don't think I have ever seen a person with more energy. Last week she was determined to learn how to jump. She jumped around the house all week until she finally learned how to get both feet off the ground at the same time. Mission accomplished!

The up side to all this activity is the fact that she is taking great naps and sleeping late... both great for me and little baby : ) Also, I am trying to treasure each day when she wakes up from her nap. Grace will lay on the sofa with me and snuggle for about 30 minutes. Sometimes she will fall back asleep and lay with me for over and hour. I LOVE this time we share, and it is also bittersweet cause I know it will probably change once little bit comes along.

I guess one of the other reasons I am so tired is because it is just so hard to try and teach a 2 year old right from wrong. Have you ever tried this? I know most of you have. Have you ever felt like you mine as well be trying to discipline a bird? Have you ever felt as though you were talking and your child is not even aware that you are in the same room with them? I seriously don't know of anything more infuriating than when your child displays willful disobedience... And then the guilt that comes after you know you have lost it and handled a situation in a way you wish you could do over. Let me just say that my child may have a bit of a stubborn streak. I know that it is best for me to be firm and teach her right from wrong, but can I just insert an "ugh" here. This is sooo much easier said than done.

In other fun news, we went to Savannah earlier this week. Jonathan had to go for work, and we got to tag along! Grace kept on saying that we were going to banana, Georgia : ) He had meetings in the morning and then was free in the afternoon to hang out with us. We got there on Sunday and made a quick trip to the beach. Grace was definitely NOT impressed. She saw the sand and said "snow!" Not quite : ) She would only tiptoe through the sand and Jonathan had to hold her any time we got near the water. She kept on saying "Big water! Big water!" I think she was a little overwhelmed by the whole thing. The next afternoon we went back. This time we brought sand toys and beach gear. It didn't take long before she was running through the sand and jumping in the waves and making sand castles (all with mommy and daddy of course). In the mornings while Jonathan was in his meetings Grace and I went to the mall where we rode the carousel and train and ate Cinnabon. On our rainy day, we went to the Bass Pro Shops and watched the fish get dinner. We went downtown one evening and walked and ate. It was so nice. We had an absolutely wonderful time on our little vacation to Savannah.

Well, that's a little update on whats been happening around our house. I will have to give a special post to little bit next week because guess what? Monday is the big day! We go to get our ultrasound and hopefully find out if baby is a boy or girl!!!! Until then...
Happy Mother's Day!!!

ps. I get to have a visit from good old B. Davis for my Mother's Day : )
