It's hard to blog without the internet. I would be stretching it if I said our internet was sporadic even part of the time. This is one of the most frustrating things about our apartment... the lack of quality internet access. I feel like blogging and uploading and sending out pictures keeps us in touch with our families, and it has been hard to have not been able to do these things as often as I would like. I also love that there will be a little journal of Grace (and now Jack) growing up for her to look at when she gets older. The other day I realized that I was forgetting some of the things that I had wanted to blog about, so I jotted them down with the good old pen and paper instead! Maybe if we have a few days of "good" internet I will get caught up!
So it's no secret that Grace is a talker. We pretty much get a running dialogue of what Grace is doing if she is awake. It is amazing to me how clear and detailed her speech is. Here are a few things that she has been saying that I definitely don't want to forget!
Grace's favorite sentence: I can do it by myself.
This morning at breakfast with a mouth full of peach: Daddy is pretty cute, Mommy.
When Grace wants something to be true she just says it like it is true. Examples:
I don't have to brush my hair right now.
I don't have to wash my hands.
It's not gonna be a little loud.
I don't have to change my diaper.
Grace likes to add the phrase "if ya want me to" to the end of a statement or request. Examples:
I can rock right here in my chair and read this book... if ya want me to.
I can color a kitty cat... if ya want me to.
I can get a little bit of ketchup with my french fry... if ya want me to.
Blame game: Grace makes a noise then goes around the room and asks each person "Was it you! Was it Yooouuuu! Was it ME!"
Favorite phrase: Whoa Joe!
Ladybug game: Grace "hides" her tub of plastic ladybugs in plain sight then asks "Where's those ladybugs?!? Are they there? There? There they are!!!"
To the lady passing out mints at Chick-fil-A: Um, I would like one of those also, please.
Prayer before meals: Me: Grace what are you thankful for?
Grace: Daddy, Mommy, Baby Jack, Samuel, the library!!!
Barney song (learned at church): I love you. I love me. we're a happy family. (fast)With a great big kiss and a great big hug. (slow) won't you say you love me too! You love me too, Mommy? You love me too, Daddy?
Talking on the phone (pretend) to Granny: Hi Granny. How ya doin today? What you up to? I go to the library. (she starts to tell about the things she sees in our house) Here is Baby Lucy. This is farms, bed, it's nap time in a little bit, that's pelican (drops phone) pelican, how ya doin today? You doin good?
Little bit: She likes to add this to the end of a sentence. Examples:
I can paint for a little bit?
I gonna play for a little bit.
I need to watch Elmo for a little bit.
Potty training: Right after tee teeing on the potty I explain that if she feels like she needs to go again just let me know. While still sitting on the toilet she then screams "Mommy, I have to use the potty!" Then upon flushing the toilet she looks in and watches the water go down the drain and says "Bye bye, tee tee!" When she is trying to go to the bathroom but is having no results she will say "Tee tee! Where are you? Come out! Come out!"
She is a little afraid of thunder so when she hears it she says "You hear that thunder, Mommy? Scared of you?
To my belly (screaming):
Baby Jack! Baby Jack! You in there Baby Jack! Whatcha up to? You growin growin growin teeny tiny baby? You gonna come out?!
Grace's name according to Grace: Grace Nida-DA (I think this is because I always spell our last name after saying it)
Graces age according to Grace: 2... and old
Jonathan to Grace: Who does Daddy love?
Grace: Mommy!
While reading a book that was a little boring: Mommy, this one is a little long. Let's try another one. OK?
Trying to choose another book off her bookshelf: She scans the books with her finger and stops every now and then to examine one only to say "That's not really my favorite" and put it back.
Reaction to there being no ice cream for dessert at church one night: But it's Wednesday!
Tonight she insisted on reading from her toddler Bible herself: She carefully flipped through each page saying "Be careful. Don't tear it, Mommy." till she found the one she was looking for. Then she stands up (just like we are in church) and starts singing at the top of her lungs "Glorious Lord! King of the King! Jesus is King of the King!" I asked her if she could sing a real song like This is my Father's World or Jesus Loves Me. She said no and continued her improvisation with great conviction. It was priceless.
Reading from a book with no pictures: She says, not sings, while running her finger over the words: Jesus loves me this I know. For the Bible tells me so. etc...
So these are a few of the things Grace has been saying. Now just imagine her saying these things with the most country (Jonathan would prefer me describe it as southern) accent you have ever heard a 2 year old have.
